ISLAMABAD, Oct 28 (APP): Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui Monday said Pakistan has been enjoying long-standing diplomatic ties with the Czech Republic.
Addressing the Czech Republic’s National Day ceremony as a special guest, the federal minister extended heartfelt congratulations on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan to the Czech government and its citizens.
In his address, Dr. Siddiqui conveyed a message of friendship and goodwill from the Prime Minister of Pakistan, emphasizing Pakistan’s long-standing diplomatic ties with the Czech Republic, established in 1950.
“Pakistan values its relationship with the Czech Republic both bilaterally and within the European Union framework and looks forward to strengthening ties in all sectors,” he stated.
Dr. Siddiqui highlighted key collaborations, mentioning Czech contributions to Pakistan’s power infrastructure, including turbines at the Mangla Dam and the establishment of Independent Power Plants (IPPs) in Balloki (Orient Power) and Muridke (Sapphire Electric) by Czech companies.
He also noted that both countries share common stances on various international and regional issues, and cooperate closely within the United Nations.
He said Pakistan and the Czech Republic enjoy robust parliamentary cooperation, with Friendship Groups established in their respective parliaments.
Mentioning the growing trade relations between both the countries, Dr. Siddiqui said that bilateral trade has been increasing steadily in recent years.
“We are working towards enhancing bilateral trade and are delighted to have signed an economic cooperation agreement in 2023,” he said.
Dr. Siddiqui emphasized the Czech Republic’s expertise in coal and mining, heavy machinery, and precision engineering, which offers significant opportunities for expanding trade and investment ties.
He also acknowledged the Pakistani community residing in the Czech Republic and expressed gratitude for the Czech government’s role in supporting Pakistani nationals and fostering people-to-people connections.
Moreover, he mentioned the increasing number of Pakistani students choosing Czech universities for higher education
which is a welcoming gesture.
